Terms of Use
Last updated October 30, 2026
Chatw (chatw.org) is a free, anonymous, ad-supported chat room for adults. By opening the chat, sending a message, or creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
The short version: be 18 or older, be decent to people, do not post anything illegal, and understand that an anonymous public chat is not a private or permanent place.
1. Who may use the site
- You must be at least 18 years old. The chat is for adults only and we remove anyone we believe is younger.
- You must be legally able to agree to these terms where you live.
- If you have been banned you may not come back under a new identity. Bans are enforced against your device and network as described in the Privacy Policy.
2. Anonymous identities and accounts
Chatw does not ask for your name, email address or phone number to chat. When you first visit, your browser is given a random identity and a signed token that is stored on your device. Clearing your browser storage discards that identity.
You may optionally reserve a username with a password. There is no password reset because we hold no email address for you: a forgotten password means a new account. You are responsible for anything done under your identity or account.
3. Rules of conduct
You agree not to post, send or upload anything that:
- is illegal where you are or where the site is operated, including any sexual content involving minors, which is reported to the authorities and results in an immediate permanent ban;
- harasses, threatens, stalks, doxxes or incites violence against anyone;
- is spam, a scam, phishing, malware, or unsolicited advertising;
- infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or privacy;
- impersonates another person, a moderator, or the site itself;
- is sexually explicit material of a person who has not agreed to it being shared;
- attempts to collect other users’ personal information or to track them outside the site.
You also agree not to interfere with the service: no automated clients, scraping, flooding, exploiting bugs, or attempts to get around rate limits, bans, human checks or voice verification (including with faked or pre-recorded audio).
4. Gender and age tags, voice checks
Tags next to a name are self-declared. We show trust signals (how long an identity has existed, whether a tag was recently changed, and whether a live voice check was passed) so people can judge for themselves. A badge is not a guarantee; use your own judgement before trusting anyone.
Voice verification is optional. It checks that a live voice matches your tag. The operator may also listen to the recording to decide the outcome, after which the recording is deleted. Deliberately misrepresenting your gender or age to deceive other users is a violation of these terms.
5. Your content
You keep whatever rights you have in the text, images, video and audio you submit. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and transmit that content to other users for as long as it remains on the site, and to keep copies as needed for moderation and legal compliance.
You confirm you have the right to share whatever you post. Public room messages are visible to everyone online and to anyone who joins later while the message is still in the room’s recent history. Private messages are visible to the person you send them to and, when reported, to the operator.
6. Moderation and enforcement
- Anyone can report a message. Reports are reviewed by the operator, who may delete content, dismiss the report, or ban the sender.
- Pictures and videos reported as illegal may be removed and the sender banned automatically, without waiting for review.
- Banning removes the person’s messages and uploads, disconnects them, and blocks them from coming back.
- False reports count against the reporter. Repeated false reports mean your reports stop counting.
- We may remove any content or restrict any identity at any time, with or without notice, if we believe it is harmful to the site or its users.
7. Advertising
The site is paid for by advertising. Ads are labelled as such. We are not responsible for the content of advertisers’ sites or for anything you buy from them. Clicking an ad takes you off the site and onto a page we do not control.
8. Availability and changes
The service is provided as it is, when it is. We may change, pause or shut down any feature or the whole site at any time. Room history is limited and is regularly deleted; do not rely on the site to keep anything for you.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Chatw is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not control what other users say or do and are not liable for it.
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use the service, which is nothing.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
10. Indemnity
You agree to compensate the operator for any claim, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) that arises from content you post, your breach of these terms, or your violation of anyone else’s rights.
11. Termination
You can stop using the site at any time; clearing your browser storage or signing out ends your session. We can end your access at any time for any breach of these terms. Sections 5, 9, 10 and 13 survive termination.
12. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Chatw infringes your copyright, send a notice through the contact page (/contact) choosing “Legal / takedown”. Include the exact message or image, when and where you saw it, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorised, and a statement that your notice is accurate. Content remains in the room for a limited time only, so include a screenshot where possible.
We remove content named in a valid notice. If you think your content was removed by mistake, send a counter-notice the same way: say what was removed, state that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake, and give your contact details.
Repeat infringers lose access. Anyone who posts infringing content after a valid notice against them is banned.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled informally will be brought in the courts of that place, and you agree to their jurisdiction. If a part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top tells you when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
15. Contact
